A reader requests the location of the article in which I discuss the notion of Dick Halloran as a symbol for Jack Torrance's penis--a theory which I maintain, but that I wish to revisit and refine. The article in question is the first of four articles about Kubrick's The Shining--all four are listed here below.
The opinion of these older articles remain strong, I think, but it is worth noting that my ideas have evolved a good deal since posting these articles back in early 2009.
These days, I am working to reflect my current research of The Moon as the central principle of reality. I will be taking a new look at The Shining, Kubrick at large, and all of the rest of my work in the light of this theory.

Thanks WWWiz,
I remember reading that post and thinking the Halloran/phallus connection as ringing particularily true. You've tainted my viewing of Halloran related scenes - I keep looking for and keep coming across little nuances in the movie that support your claim.
The latest involves the scene where Halloran shines while lying on his bed. Dick's legs are spread slightly apart. Across from him are two lamps, the TV and painting of the afro-ed woman. To my eye these items outline an erected penis - the afro forming the penis's head.
The shot cuts back to view Halloran from the front. Same deal - two lamps, the afro-ed woman - but Halloran himself becomes part of the penis.
Horror, shmorror. As Halloran leans back to start his shine it's hard not to imagine that, the TV having provided adequate images, his mind's eye hasn't focused on that afro-ed lovely and taking him into some shiny reverie.
As for the sins associated with having a TV at the foot of the bed, I can only speak from experience.
To Johnny Bebop...
I think you are on the money here. A very nice breakdown of that scene. Kubrick jammer John Fell Ryan would probably agree with your imagery here. You should check out his tumbler blog called KDK12.
Aye Aye, fellas ...
And check out this mess of Kubrickkake:
